Youth

Small Groups are more than just Bible Study groups.  While Bible study is a part of what they do, they are also about bringing us together to be able to share life and support each other, with leaders who are willing to help out with other parts of life too.  Our High School small groups are organised into Year 7&8, 9&10, 11& 12 and split into guys and girls groups.  Each group has two leaders and meets every Sunday in School term at the church at 4.15pm.  We start off with time all in together, split off into groups and then come back together for dinner (cost $3) and then encourage everyone to stay for church at 6.30pm.

Youth Centre runs every Wednesday afternoon in school term (except the first week) from 3.30 – 6.00pm.  Anyone is welcome to come along with the sports courts available, as well as pool and table tennis.  The lounges are available to chill out, play cards, and chat.  There are art supplies for those who are creative, space to do homework, and a place to jam if you are a muso.  There are also food and drink available for sale.

Youth Group runs on several Saturday nights during school terms.  Our events include theme and games nights[ Photo Credit: David Bryden ] at the church, trips to places like Dark Zone & mini golf, and worship nights.  At the end of the usual youth group nights we often run ‘Seniors’ social nights for those in year 10-12.  Every term we produce a leaflet advertising the activities for that term.

Boys’ Brigade meets weekly on Friday nights during school terms with frequent social activities, camps, and hikes happening on weekends throughout the year.  The Friday night program includes activities, devotions, and games, all designed to help boys meet their potential.  Some of the weekend activities include rafting, water-skiing, hiking, driving paddock cars and overnight camps.

Girls’ Brigade is an organisation that is Christian based and provides girls with a program that is fun and exciting each Tuesday night.  The program incorporates physical, social, and spiritual aspects and includes crafts, cooking, team games etc.  The girls work toward badges that are presented at the end of the year whilst helping their spiritual walk and developing future leadership qualities.

Youth Camps
We run two youth camps every year – over the Queen’s Birthday weekend we participate in State Youth Games, a big event involving over 70 youth groups and 3000 young people from all over Victoria.  It is a weekend where the days are given over to having fun playing all kind of sports in Mini round-robins, and the nights are spent round camp-fires, at the Rally, and many other activities.  Later in the year we run a getaway camp with plenty of time to relax and spend time with friends.

Girl’s Strength and Fitness
This will be much more than a place for girls just to come together and get fit – this is about building self worth on every level, a chance to explore the idea of what being ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ can mean. Some of our leaders are madly passionate about seeing girls confident in themselves and making healthy lifestyle choices, not feeling like they have to give in to certain ideals to fit in or be accepted. This is though doing fun and easy fitness activities, and being able to encourage each other in growing to realise what God desires for them in their lives.

Mentoring
How good does it feel to know there is one person that is willing to listen to you, work with you and invest in your life? For youths from year 9 up, we have a mentoring program which aims to match up young people with someone slightly older, wiser and more experienced who will walk through a period of life with them. Mentors organise to meet up reguarly to be a friend, guide and supporter, and are provided with training and support.
