Kids Hope is a mentoring program sponsored by World Vision which brings together church-based mentors and needy primary-school children…..

“One Church – One School
One Mentor – One Child
One hour per week”

[ mentor and child ]

Mitcham Baptist Church has a Kids Hope relationship with Mitcham Primary School, where several volunteer mentors each meet weekly for an hour to build a mentoring relationship with a child who has an academic, social or emotional need.

The Kids Hope program has been most successful in assisting children who are struggling, and has the added advantage of enabling churches to build bridges of friendship with people in their local
community, as the following story demonstrates:

Edith is about 74 years old and has been mentoring William for nearly 2 years.  Edith fell and broke her shoulder and was unable to attend her weekly mentoring sessions with William for quite a few weeks.

When Edith returned to the school to mentor William, his teacher came across the room and gave her the biggest hug saying, “How pleased I am to see you back at school. You have made such a wonderful difference in William’s life”.

There is always a need for more mentors. If you are over 18, have an hour a week to spare, and would like to help, please do.

Mentor training and resources are provided, and no special qualification is required other than a love for children and a desire to help. Your Kids Hope hour may be negotiated with the child’s teacher to suit your availability.
